For over 50 years has provided such information and planning services needed to solve problems and provide focus and attention on key issues of regional consequence. more Stay Connected The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission has created an electronic newsletter to keep you updated on the latest developments at the Commission and significant regional news related to the issues that addresses. Major Work Efforts A Chloride Impact Study for the Southeastern Wisconsin Region The Commission staff has begun this comprehensive study of the environmental impacts of chloride on the water resources of the Region. This study will provide an inventory of the historical and present sources of chloride loads to surface and groundwater resources, an assessment of the impacts of these loads on the environment, a state-of-the-art component addressing current research and emerging technologies and policies related to mitigating the environmental effects of chloride from multiple sources, an identification of alternate means of achieving desired levels of the management of sources of chloride, and general recommendations for reducing the undesireable environmental impacts of the use of chloride. more VISION 2050 VISION 2050 recommends a long-range vision for land use and transportation in the seven-county Southeastern Wisconsin Region. It makes recommendations to local and State government to shape and guide land use development and transportation improvement, including public transit, arterial streets and highways, freight, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities, to the year 2050. VISION 2050 builds on our strengths as a Region, and seeks to improve areas where we do not compete well with our peers, so the Region can attract new residents and businesses. more Restoration Plan for the Oak Creek Watershed The Commission staff is preparing a restoration plan for the Oak Creek watershed. This plan will provide a guide for addressing the water quality impairments that have been identified in the watershed and will include specific, targeted recommendations to address a set of focus issues related to conditions in the watershed. more Get Involved We invite you to participate in planning for the future of our region. Notices and News Seeking Resident Input Through COVID-19 Remote Work Survey The Commission is conducting a public survey to understand the impacts that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on employee commuting and remote work trends in Southeastern Wisconsin. Survey responses will help understand remote work adoption rates and help guide strategies for regional alternative transportation programs in a post-pandemic future. All working-age residents (approximately 18-65 years old) in the seven-county Southeastern Wisconsin Region are invited to provide responses at www.sewrpc.org/C19Survey . The survey consists of 12 questions and will be open for responses through Friday, April 23. All responses are completely confidential . Seeking Input on Draft Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy M7 and are seeking input on the draft 2021-2025 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for Southeastern Wisconsin. Public comments will be accepted through March 31, 2021, via email, mail, phone, and the CEDS webpage. M7 and will consider all comments prior to preparing the final CEDS, which will then be considered for adoption by each county and . More information, including the presentation from a virtual stakeholder meeting held on March 16, can be found here . and Milwaukee County Seeking Public Input for Transit Enhancement Study along and near 27th Street At the request of Milwaukee County, the Commission is assisting on a study to enhance transit service along and near 27th Street. The first round of virtual public involvement took place on February 23 and 24. If you were not able to attend the meetings, visit mkenorthsouth.com/engage to view the presentations and provide feedback via the survey and interactive maps through March 31. The purpose of the study is to support mobility throughout Milwaukee County, focusing on underserved residents in the corridor and supporting the County’s commitment to racial equity and social justice investments. Second Edition of VISION 2050 Published The Commission adopted the 2020 Review and Update to VISION 2050 in June and has now incorporated all the updates into a Second Edition of VISION 2050, including changes to plan recommendations and updated transportation funding and equity analyses. The report documenting the 2020 Update has also been published along with a document summarizing the 2020 Update. While the 2020 Update does not represent a major overhaul of the plan, it ensures the plan stays current and addresses federal requirements. Biking During COVID-19 The COVID-19 pandemic has rapidly changed the way Southeastern Wisconsin residents have weighed their transportation choices. staff have highlighted key ways biking cannot only be an attractive transportation option, but also uniquely help riders maintain a safe social distance from others. Report Comparing the Milwaukee Metro Area to Its Peers Commission staff recently prepared a second edition of a report comparing the four-county Milwaukee metro area to 28 peer metro areas in the Midwest and across the country. The comparison includes a number of key measures related to population growth and characteristics, the economy, and transportation. Among the conclusions, the report finds that the Milwaukee metro area is growing slower than most of its peers, its disparities between whites and minorities are far more pronounced than those in almost all peer metro areas, and its transit levels are in danger of shrinking to the much lower level...
